PLEASE READ BOTH OF THE QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!  Please NO LISTS!  Please use only proper paragraph form!

1)         This question is testing you on chapter two in the Anderson casebook (and lectures going along with chapter two.  What was Removal Policy during the Removal Era (1817-1848)? The Anderson casebook excerpts two cases at length from the Cherokee Cases.  (The two cases are Cherokee Nation v. Georgia and Worcester v. Georgia.)  Do a legal summary of each case and explain what the US Supreme Court held (decided) in each case. Be specific. Were the decisions carried out by President Jackson? With what result? Make sure to use citations as discussed above. Make sure to answer each and every part of this question.  60 points—three (3) page minimum with margins, spacing, and fonts as described above—This means FULL (not partial) pages.

2)         This question is testing you on lecture five about full federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe.  In your own words, please explain the basic political history of federal recognition and the Lumbee Tribe.  Again, please DO NOT make a list or a timeline—please explain in proper paragraph form.  Make sure to include all relevant legislation!  Next, why is full federal recognition so important to the Lumbee Tribe?  Please be specific!  Finally, where does the Lumbee Tribe stand today with achieving full federal recognition?   Make absolutely sure to use the links to sources in lecture five to back up your answers!  You should cite appropriately! If you are citing one of the sources include the internet link—do not just say that it came from my lecture.  40 points—two (2) page minimum with margins, spacing, and fonts as described above—This means FULL (not partial pages).
