THE INTERNAL SCAN (INTERNAL AUDIT)

Using the Case you have chosen, you will continue performing the Environment Scanning process of the Strategic Management Model. Environmental scanning is comprised of two parts: the External Scan and the Internal Scan. Assuming the External Scan has been completed, (in case based paper #1), the Internal Scan will be completed next. The Internal Scan is important because this is where we identify the strengths and weaknesses of the firm. The following are guidelines to complete the Internal Scan.
As you know the internal environment consists of the:
The Organizational Structure – Corporate Governance: Ownership Concentration, Board of Directors, and Executive Compensation.

Based on the information in the case, you are to discuss and evaluate the three internal governance mechanisms described in the textbook: Ownership Concentration, Board of Directors and Executive Compensation. In your analysis, please include a discussion highlighting at least TWO Key members of Top management and TWO key members on the Board of Directors: Explain how/why each of these individuals add value/provides a competitive advantage for your company. If possible, provide an example of the firm’s (high level) organization chart/structure. (i.e. major divisions and senior level managers).

Organizational Culture: The complex set of beliefs, ideologies, symbols and core values that are shared throughout the firm and that influence how the firm conducts business. Corporate culture is shared by a corporation’s members and is transmitted from one generation of
employees to another

Based on the information in the case and incorporating the information highlighted in the textbook, discuss the concept of corporate culture and briefly explain its importance. Using information provided in
the case (or on the company’s website or annual report), describe the driving themes behind what the company does and what it stands for. An example would be Apple, whose driving theme is innovation.

The Organization’s Resources – Resources, Capabilities and Core Competencies

Resources, capabilities and core competencies are the foundation of competitive advantage. Refer to Chapter #3 in the textbook: (1) Briefly discuss the components of an Internal Analysis (Figure 3.1 in textbook) (2) Include a discussion of Value Chain Analysis in this section. (3) In your opinion, which Value chain activity provides the most value to your company + please explain why. (4) Does your company engage in any outsourcing activities? If yes, Please provide a brief example.
