Each student will choose a current Database/Big Data/Data Analysis/Data Visualization related concept or software product(s)

Examples: Data Analytics, Big Data Applications,  IoT (Internet of things), AI based Machine learning using Big Data, Modern Data Warehousing, Modern OLAP, Distributed, Highly available distributed systems for data-intensive applications (such as Hadoop/MapReduce), SQL on Hadoop, Cloudera, Object-Oriented Databases,  Object Relational Databases such as Postgres,  JSON (Javascript Object Notation), Big Data & NoSQL (a cheeky acronym for Not Only SQL, or more confrontationally, No to SQL; http://nosql-database.org/ )

In NoSQL, can also focus on: In-Memory Databases such as Redis or SAP-Hana, Document-based databases like MongoDB; key-value databases such as Riak, Graph Databases like Neo4J; Cloud or web based databases like CouchDB or Amazon’s DynamoDB; Datomic: a hybrid of NoSQL and traditional RDBMS

For Data Visualization and Big Data, can also talk about products from TableauSplunk, QlikMicrosoft PowerBI etc.

 

DELIVERABLE:

  1. Make a short, but detailed  presentation. Describe (not necessarily every issue, but a good number of these to make your presentation valuable)what it is, who makes it, cost/benefit issues, business impacts, customer impacts, & Technological Challenges/Advantages etc. You can also take specific products or concepts from vendors, then compare and contrast them (say, Hadoop versus Cassandra, Oracle vs. SQL Server, Tableau vs. Splunk) .
