Professional Development ,
A. What is the required educational entry level for an RN on the unit/in the facility?
If the unit has nurses with different levels of degree –( i.e Diploma, Associates, Bachelors, Masters) for those RNs who have less than a Bachelor degree are they mandated to complete the BS degree? If so, by when?
Is there tuition remission or reimbursement for any nurse who desires to continue his/her education beyond the degree that they entered the institution with? What is the highest degree that the institution will reimburse an RN for?
B. Are nurses in this unit encouraged or mandated to obtain certification? If so, how are these nurses encouraged? Is there compensation for obtaining certification? Do they attain a different “clinical ladder” or recognition of their expertise?
C.Committees within the facility
1. Who can serve?
2. What are the unit based committees and/or institution wide?
3. What opportunities, if any, are available to a new graduate nurse?
D. What professional organizations outside of the agency are nurses encouraged to join?
E. Are nurses encouraged to attend professional conferences?
How is it determined who can attend if there are multiple nurses who would like to attend a conference?
Does the institution provide a stipend for nurses to attend? Are they allotted money in as part of their benefit package?
Are they required to bring the information back to the unit? For example – In a presentation? Discussion forum?
