the assignment is about a comparison paper of any building of my choice to the hollyhock house.
I choose The Temple at Eridu, Iraq 3500 BCE
so please read this carefully
1.should be 1.) completed prior to 1700CE 2.) Should be nonwestern, aka don’t pick a building from Europe! Look for a comparison building in the Americas, Asia, Africa, or Middle East. 3.) Should be a single building not a site or complex (to make your life easier).
2.Write a paper that is 5 paragraphs before your images are added. Your paragraphs should include an introduction with thesis statement, at least 3 paragraphs of supporting evidence and a conclusion. Please include 3 scholarly sources in total cited in APA or MLA format. Scholarly sources include books, journals, films, articles, etc. Wikipedia should be cited if you use it, however dont include it in your 3 sources. Include image citations for any images that you use that are not your own.
3.Include diagrams (at least 2) to help illustrate your point. This could be a series of diagrams or a few simple diagrams. These should be YOUR OWN and should support your comparison and what you are trying to illustrate in your paper. Your goal should be to argue that 2 buildings that seem different, are in fact really similar when viewed through your lens. Dont think about showing the differences difference is a given. Highlight SIMILARITY.Focus on only ONE of the different topics we discussed in class as a way to find similarities. These included materials/construction, ornament, formal analysis, environment, program, and culture/story.
4.Focus on only ONE of the different topics we discussed in class as a way to find similarities. These included materials/construction, ornament, formal analysis, environment, program, and culture/story.Finding sources: you can cite the Hollyhock Article, and the textbook as 2 of your 3 academic sources. This leaves you on the hunt for only 1 more required source. The library is your friend! Look for books! The nonwestern ancient buildings I am asking you to focus on are not likely going to be found in architecture blogs. Other good sources are the library databases. The most useful to you will likely be
a.JStor (for articles)
b.ArtStor (GREAT for images and drawings)
c.Avery Index of Architectural Periodicals
please revise the assignment and re-write it comparing to a building that was before 1700BCE
