Group Statistics Project Assignment

40% of course grade

Due August 6, 2016

The purpose of this assignment is to learn the basics of conducting statistical analysis and the presentation of the results in tables, graphs and narrative. You may do this assignment alone or with one other classmate (maximum of 2 people in a group). If you do the assignment with a partner, please document what percentage of time each of you put into the project.

The final product will be a five-page, APA-formatted, double-spaced, paper consisting of the following:

Introduction (.5 – 1 page): What is the scope of your analysis? What is your research question? What hypotheses (you must test at least two hypotheses) will you be testing? Why are these hypotheses important to test? Be sure to indicate the independent and dependent variables, how they are measured, the null hypotheses. Note: You do not have limit yourself to bivariate hypotheses.

Sample Characteristics (1 – 1.5 pages): Prepare at least one APA-formatted table summarizing the demographic and other characteristics of your sample, reporting both measures of central tendency and dispersion. Provide a one-paragraph narrative summarizing this table.

Study Findings (2 – 3 pages): Prepare 1 – 2 APA formatted tables showing your results. Summarize these results in narrative form. In both the tables, be sure to report the actual results, your statistical criteria (alpha level), and whether or not your hypotheses are supported by the evidence.

Discussion and Conclusion (1 page): In narrative form, discuss the implications of your analysis for social work education. These may include admission policy, curriculum, and issues for further investigation.
