|Elements to consider when watching a play and writing a critique
The following is to be included in your reflection essays on the production you see.
I. Information about the production itself, including:
II. Brief synopsis of the plot or a short summary of what the play is about.
IV. The scenic, lighting, and sound designs. Discuss each of these elements. Include the general set,
V. The costumes; period, style. What do they contribute to the production?
VI. The genre, type, or period of the play. The period refers to the era and country in which it is set.
VII. What are the philosophical, social, religious, and/or political issues the play deals with, and how
VIII. Your personal opinion of the production. This includes both your Dionysian and Apollonian
Please include a cover sheet with your name, class (day and time), my name, and title of the review. The cover sheet is NOT considered the first page of your paper. Please do not put a page number on the cover sheet. Page 1 begins with the first page of the critique.
Grading: 25 points for attendance. The ticket stub must be attached to the cover sheet.
Each of the 8 sections will be worth a maximum of 6 points each. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax are worth another 2 points. Failing to follow the required layout of the paper will result in a loss of 2 points. The required layout of the paper includes 1 inch margins all around, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman, 11 pt. font, justified margins.
