Character: What Lies Beneath? Your choice this week: Answer one of the prompts below – or if you are feeling especially inspired by this week’s film, answer both! Twelfth Night: Pick 2 or 3 characters to focus on. Consider the names of the characters in the play and the possible meaning behind them. What might the name reveal about each character? How does the power and knowledge of each character relate to his/her status/station in life? Who seems to know what is really going on, and who is being duped? Hamlet Clips: Describe your impressions of the six clips you viewed. Of the six versions of the “To be or not to be…” speech, which actor captured the essence of the character Hamlet and which actor stumbled? Why? Consider your understanding of the speech and what motivates Hamlet to speak it – does one actor’s performance better match your interpretation or help you better understand the character? How? Your response should fully answer the discussion prompt in a full paragraph (minimum of 7-8 sentences, more is always encouraged!). Please take the time to look over any discussion posts submitted by your classmates as your reaction to their responses may add depth to your own response.
