Analyzing and Making a Decision about an Ethical Dilemma. The purpose of this assignment is to become more aware of ethical issues, identify an ethical issue and use sound ethical reasoning in making a decision about how best to handle the dilemma.

What is an Ethical Dilemma? Ethical dilemmas, also known as a moral dilemma, are situations in which there is a choice to be made between two options [both of which will generate a negative result based on society, personal and professional guidelines] neither of which resolves the situation in an ethically acceptable fashion. For instance, a doctor choosing between the life of a fetus or the mother’s; physician assisted suicide; a teacher who must fail a brilliant student who did not pass because they can’t test well or are a nervous wreck during exams, etc. Students can find and use ethical dilemmas or violations from newspapers, magazines, print and electronic media but these must be professional dilemmas [one that occurs during the performance of a professional duty]. Examples of some ethical dilemma are posted on Canvas to guide students. Where in doubt about what constitutes an ethical dilemma, consult the Instructor for clarification.Read the New York Times and/or Chicago Tribune and identify one ethical issue that could relate to any area of social work. How is the issue important to the profession of social work? The article may not specifically discuss ethics but the potential for an ethical dilemma is present although the ethical issue(s) may be ignored, distorted or inferred. Discuss the following-You are strongly advised to use these guidelines as headingsto assist and ensure.
a coherent documentation of your argument/dilemma -You may also create subheadings under each at your discretion, but you must use these headings for the sake of consistency:
1. What is the key ethical question?
2. What is the most important information you will need to answer the ethical question?
3. What are the key ethical concepts and principles to consider?
4. What assumptions will you use to resolve the ethical question?
